Street Style / Moda de la calle

Today`s trends are not only found on the runways during fashion weeks but are daily marched down the city streets of New York, London, Madrid, Milan or even small cities and towns like mine, Granada.   We urban dwellers can and are inspirations for designers.  Imagine that.  When we step out of our doorways we are walking models, a mobile fashion statement. Makes you think twice about walking out of the house in old sneakers and your boyfriends pajamas. 

Las tendencias de hoy no solamente se pueden ver en las pasarelas durante las semanas de moda sino al diario en las calles de ciudades como Nueva York, Londres, Madrid, Milán e incluso en ciudades pequeñas como la mía, Granada.  Nosotros, callejeros, podemos ser y somos inspiraciones para los diseñadores.  ¡Imagínatelo!  Cuando salgamos del portal de nuestra casa somos modelos móviles, llamando la atención por donde vayamos.  Te hace pensar dos veces en salir de la casa en pijamas viejos y unas zapatillas de deporte, ¿eh?.

Last week was New York Fashion week and this week Madrid fashion week and although most of the focus was on the runways, attendees and fashionists on the streets were also showing off their bets for this years fall/winter trends.  Seeing fashion worn by everyday women, instead of 6 foot models makes me think ¨hey I could wear that¨, instead of ¨uuuggghhh I WISH I could wear that¨.  

Esta semana es la Madrid Fashion Week y la semana pasada fue la de Nueva York y aunque casi toda la atención esta dirigida a las pasarelas, las fashionistas y invitadas también lucían sus mejores apuestas para las tendencias del Otoño/Invierno.  Viendo esas mujeres normales, en vez de modelos que miden 178cm, me hace pensar ¨oye, yo podría llevar eso también, en vez de ¨ uffff me GUSTARIA poder llevar eso¨. 

So if you didn`t get an invitaion to the runways shows jut pay attention to the streets.  AW 2013 will be filled with strong blue colors,  total black, geometrical stripes, floral prints and two toned garments whether it be black and red, black and blue, black and white etc.  Snake and leopard prints are still hot and the military trend is going to be hanging around for awhile.  Fur and leather is very prominent in this seasons style but if you can not go ¨balls out¨, no worries just make sure you have a fur accessory such as a xl collar, eternity scarf or trimmings on blouses, dresses etc.  Also leather pants, skirts and jackets are very in style and even though it may not seem very warm, go with a no collar style.

Entonces si no te invitaron a los ¨shows¨,  presta atención a la calle.  Otoño/Invierno 2013 estará llena de azules intensos, negro total, combinaciones de blanco y negro, estampados geométricos, florales y prendas ¨bi-tonos¨ en rojo y negro, azul y negro etc.  El estampado animal, serpiente o leopardo y el ¨look¨ militar se quedan unas temporadas más.  La piel esta muy de moda otra vez y si no puedes romper la hucha con una prenda de pelo no te preocupes solo tienes que buscarte un accesorio de piel como un cuello o bufanda XL o camisas y vestidos con toques de piel en los hombros, cuellos o bajos.  Los pantalones, faldas y chaqueta de napa esta todavía muy de moda y aunque no parezca lo mas abrigado para el invierno búscate un modelo sin cuello.

Tomorrow is Valentine`s day and for some it is a truly romantic day but for other`s it can be lonely or even sad.  I remember the excitement of exchanging valentines in grade school and later going over and over each one to find a possible declaration of love from that secret admirer.  Oh how nerve racking yet exciting at the same time.  Although those days are long gone and I now know who my secret admirer is (he is my every day admirer), I thought it would be fun to spread a little love.  Instead of passing out or sending valentines, I have decided to share what I have found this week which in one way or another has caught my attention, made me laugh, smile or brought me joy. 
Starting with the first picture of a Tin Man and his heart, although this Tin Man is a little uncanny (yes, pun intended)  as he looks sad even though he finally has his heart.  One of my favorite childhood movies was The Wizard of Oz and I can honestly say that if they were to show it on TV I would be delighted to watch it again.
Mañana es el día de San Valentín y para algunos es un día muy romantico pero para otros puede ser un día triste y solitario.  En el colegio el día de San Valentín intercambiamos tarjetas de felicitaciones con mensajes de amistad o cariño.  Luego en casa contaba cuantas tenía y si habia alguna declaración de amor de algún admirador secreto.  ¡Que día de nervios y emoción!  Ya que no mando tarjetas de felicitacion ya que esos días son muy lejanos y ahora sé quien es mi admirador secreto (el que me admira todos los días),  he pensado que sería divertido repartir un poco de cariño entre los lectores de mi blog.  Comparto esta semana todo lo que he encontrado que me ha llamado la atención, me ha hecho reir o sonreir y que me ha traido felicidad. 
Empiezo con la foto arriba de un Hombre de Lata de la pelicula el Mago de Oz, aunque este ya tiene su corazon y sin embargo todavía parece triste, quizás el amor no esta hecho para todos.  Me acuerdo muy bien de esta pelicula y aunque la veía de niña me haría una gran ilusión verla otra vez de adulta.   

I wonder if the model in the above picture finally found what she was looking for?  Well in the meantime I am sure she has everyones attention.
Me pregunto, ¿Habrá encontrado lo que buscaba esta mujer?  Bueno, de todos modos, mientras tiene nuestra atención.   

The song, Rest of my life, by Rilo Kiley can for some cause a fountain of tears on a day like Valentines but for others we are lucky enough to not have to search any longer and can just enjoy these pretty tunes.
La canción, Rest of my life, de Rilo Kiley puede causar riadas de lagrimas en un día como San Valentín pero para otros tenemos la suerte de no tener que buscar mas tiempo para nuestra pareja perfecta y podemos simplemente disfrutar de la música.

Pink, the R rated color

When I was a little girl I loved everything pink.  I begged and begged until I finally got a frilly pink Canopy bed for my birthday with a frilly pink bedcover and all.  On my first communion I wore a pale pink dress, instead of the traditional white one.  I loved the ¨Pink Elephants on Parade¨ even though that was what Dumbo dreamed of while he was intoxicated, but hey what did I know, they were pink.  I liked to brush Magic Fluttershy`s (My Little Pony) pink hair and dress Skipper in her pink bikini. 
Cuando yo era una niña me encantaba todo que tenia que ver con el color rosa.  Yo suplicaba y suplicaba hasta que por fin mis padres me regalaron una cama con baldaquín en rosa y encaje blanco y con la ropa de cama a juego.  Para mi primera comunión me vestí con un vestido rosa, en vez del tradicional blanco.   Podía pasar horas peinando el pelo rosa de Magic Fluttershy (My Little Pony), siempre vestía a Skipper Barbie con su bikini rosa y me gustaba tanto como olia ¨Tarta de Fresa¨.  

 But when I turned about 13 or 14 everything went BLACK and has stayed that way uptil adulthood.  Nowadays when I open my closet and see all my boring black clothes, I think ¨oh how depressing¨.  In fact last year I swore to myself that I would not buy anymore black clothes.  I thought of adding whites, cremes, beiges , red`s and browns to my wardrobe. 
Cuando cumplí 13 o 14 años mi mundo se volvió oscuro y cambió a negro y permaneció así hasta bien entrada en mi vida adulta.  Hoy en día cuando abro mi armario y veo toda esa ropa negra y aburrida, pienso ¨jo, que deprimente. De hecho el año pasado me hice una promesa de no comprar más ropa negra y pensaba en añadir a mi armario colores como blancos, cremas, beiges, marrones o incluso algún color atrevido como el rojo ( si ya lo se, que locura!). 

Now I will tell you this, the one color I hadn`t thought about (after many many many years, yes I could go on for awhile) was pink and nevertheless adding it to my wardrobe.  I assume this has something to do with my obsession in my earlier years and the association of the color ¨pink¨ with something infantile.
Ahora te puedo decir que uno de los colores que nunca volví a pensar en ello (después de muchos, muchos, muchos….podría seguir un buen rato) fue el color rosa y mucho menos pensar en añadirlo a mi armario.  Supongo que tiene algo que ver con la obsesión que tuve de niña y lo asociado que lo tengo con algo infantil.

But just like fashion trends return so do the colors that characterized them and with the 90`s revival in full swing pink is back and it is ¨HOT¨.  NO, I am not saying sexy (although it can be that too), I am talking HOT PINK, Fuchsia.  This years pink is rated R, it is bold, audacious and wilder than when I was a little girl.  So say goodbye ¨Hello Kitty¨ and say ¨HELLLLLOOOOO Pussycat¨, because that is how you will feel dressing this color.  
Pero igual que las tendencias de la moda vuelven también lo hacen los colores que la caracterizaban y con ¨La vuelta de los 90¨ el color rosa ha vuelto y ha vuelto muy fuerte.  Hablo del color Fucsia, un rosa muy fuerte, provocativo, llamativo, mucho mas apto para adultas que niñas.  Eso no es el ¨Hello Kitty¨ de tu hija o tú hermana pequeña pero mas bien un ¨HOOOOOLA Pantera¨ de una mujer y así te sentirás vistiendo este color.

Fashion ¨Vale Tudo¨, what division are you?

The other day I saw an article in a magazine that described fashion and how it has evolved from the 1800`s up til today.  Starting with the Victorian era moving through 19th century fashion like flappers and into 20th century such as grunge right up to 2012 where they called it the year of ¨Vale tudo¨.  Now those of you who are familiar with this martial art probably already know that it aquired it`s name because it basically has no rules which are applied during combat.  And if we take a good look at the runways, our celebrities and even the streets of the cities where we live, I think we would all agree that this term definately describes todays fashion trends.  All the rules about not mixing patterns, stripes with checkers, floral with animal print or colors, fucsia with orange etc (just to name a few examples) are all long gone and the streets have become our combat zone where each of us is free to express ourselves as we want and still be in fashion.  There are many different divisions of ¨fighters¨ or fashion victims starting from  the ¨light weight¨, someone who still matches handbag with shoes coordinating all accesories with that days outfit but maybe chooses a bolder color than normal.  Then there`s the ¨middle weight¨ or what I call the moderate mixer (I think I fall into this category).  We may throw on a pair of snake skin print skinny pants, a not to risque top, high top sneakers, a leather biker jacket and a leopard print handbag.  And then there are the ¨heavy weights¨ whom have no problem mixing colors, patterns and styles all in the same outfit and when you see them on the street it`s a K.O. as they leave you breathless and stunned, not really knowing what hit you.  

El otro día leí un articulo en una revista que describía la moda y como ha evolucionado desde el 1800 hasta hoy día.  Comenzó con la era Victoriana pasando por el siglo 19 con modas como el ¨flapper¨, por el siglo 20 con la moda ¨grunge¨ hasta este año, 2012, que lo describió como el año de ¨vale tudo¨.  Los que estáis familiarizados con este arte marcial sabéis que adquirió este nombre porque básicamente es una lucha que casi no tiene reglas.  Si echamos un vistazo a las pasarelas, las celebritys e incluso las calles de nuestras ciudades creo que estaréis de acuerdo conmigo que ese término describe bien la moda de hoy día.  Todas las reglas sobre no mezclar estampados, floral con animal, o colores, fucsia con naranja (para nombrar algunas) están mas que perdonadas y olvidadas y las calles se han convertido en nuestro campo de batalla donde cada uno es libre de expresarse y vestirse como quiera y todavía estar a la moda.  En esta lucha hay muchas divisiones de ¨luchadoras¨  o fashion victims empezando por la de ¨peso pluma¨, alguien que todavía lleva los zapatos a juego con el bolso y con su traje pero quizás mete algún color un poco atrevido.  Las siguientes son la de ¨peso medio¨ o las que mezclan con moderación (creo que yo pertenezco a esta división).  A lo mejor combinaríamos unos pantalones pitillo con estampado de serpiente, con un una camisa transparente, unos sneakers, chaqueta de piel motera y un bolso grande de estampado de leopardo.  Y por fin están los ¨pesos pesados¨ quienes no tienen ningún problema en mezclar colores, estampados y estilos y cuando les ves por la calle te dejan K.O., sin  aliento ni palabras y sin saber que ha pasado.

90´s Revival / La vuelta de los 90

Those of you who lived through the 90`s, like me, probably feel like you are cruising down memory lane as flannel shirts, high waisted pants, cut off jeans, black biker jackets, sweatshirts and hightops (just to give a few examples) parade up and down the streets.  If I would have known back in the day that fashion was a 20 year cycle and that the clothes I so readily threw into a salvation army bin would be strutting down the runways in the future I might have folded them away into my trunk of memories instead of all the ¨best effort¨ trophies which now fill it.  

Los que habéis vivido los años 90, como yo, probablemente sentís como si los transeúntes de tu ciudad hubieran estado rebuscando en el baúl de los recuerdos; camisas de cuadros, pantalones de cintura alta, vaqueros cortos (cut offs), chaquetas negras moteras, sudaderas y zapatillas ¨high tops¨, para salir a la calle.  Si yo hubiera sabido que la moda de hace 20 años iba a volver no habría donado con tanta rapidez una ropa que ahora desfila por las pasarelas mas internacionales y mi baúl de recuerdos estaría lleno de ropa en vez de unos trofeos por haber ¨participado¨.  

Oh well.  My one consolation is that although fashion is a cycle it does tend to reinvent itself and doesn`t come back EXACTLY the same.   For example the 90`s grunge style combined with the ¨I don`t give a f**k¨ attitude has been replaced by a more feminine-casual style and a softer attitude.  Back in the day it was common to see models, celebrities and rock stars in the latest fashions, smoking a cigarette and flipping off the camera where as nowadays that is a big no-no.  Now we can sport that anything goes fashion but with our nails nicely manicured, our hair combed and a big smile and wave to accompany our look.  

Bueno, dicho eso, mi único consuelo es que aunque la moda vuelve siempre vuelve un poco cambiada.  Por ejemplo el estilo grunge de los 90`s combinado con esa actitud de ¨me da igual todo¨ ha sido reemplazado por un estilo mas femenino, casual y un comportamiento mas educado.  Antes era normal ver modelos, rockeros o celebritys a la última moda, con un cigarrillo en la boca y en la mano  un gesto vulgar pero hoy en día eso esta muy mal visto.  De hecho ahora la moda es mas bien ¨vale todo¨ pero eso si, con la manicura hecha, el pelo cuidado, una sonrisa blanca y saludando a la cámara con simpatía.  

One of my favorite 90`s revival trends are high tops which designers such as Marc Jacobs, Prada and especially Isabel Marant have brought back this year.  Celebrities such as Rhianna, Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian have all been spotted out sporting their casual look of skinny jeans or even flowy skirts with a pair of high tops.  And just so we don`t have to loose touch with our feminine side or any sex appeal many of this season high tops come with a heel incorporated (different from the 90`s version with no heel or a horrible platform heel).  

Una de mis tendencias favoritas de los 90`s son las zapatillas ¨high tops¨ que los diseñadores como Marc Jacobs, Prada y Isabel Marant han vuelto a incluir en sus colecciones de este año.  Famosos como Rhianna, Miranda Kerr y Kim Kardashian han sido fotografiadas con unos vaqueros pitillos o incluso faldas y unos high tops.  Y para que no perdamos nuestra apariencia femenina o nuestro sex appeal muchos de los modelos de esta temporada tienen tacón incorporado (muy diferente a la versión de los 90 que no llevaba o tenía una especie de plataforma horible).  

So those of you who did save your clothes from the 90`s you can go ahead and bring them out but just make sure to fabreeze them very well, getting rid of that grandma closet smell and make sure you rock the 90`s revival look with a 2012 attitude (careful to not go from Beyonce to a Spice Girl).  

Entonces para los que si habéis guardado vuestra ropa de los 90 podéis sacarla pero antes siempre aireandola bien para que no huela al armario de la abuela y dandole el toque del presente para asegurarte que pareces mas a una Beyonce que una Spice Girl.

Trunk Show Chicago

Last Saturday, April 28th, from 4-6pm Crivero celebrated it's first ever Trunk Show.  I am very happy to say that thanks to all those who collaborated and those who attended it was a very successful showing.  In total we were about 20 participants and everyone was able to browse the new Spring and Fall collections for 2012.

We enjoyed explaining to everyone the Crivero concept and our ideas for a future Crivero online store.  All those who came participated in a raffle and two of our lucky guests won prizes. Matt Hyde won a leather business or credit card holder and Marcia Reynolds won a leather carrying bag which can be used for a cell phone or as a camera holder.  And while all the browsing and socializing were  going on we were sipping sangria and wine, nibbling and grooving to the Trunk Show mix (which can be downloaded here)  made by Joe Mendoza, host.

Leather ocasions

In times of economic crisis we are very cautious with our money and therefor when we go shopping we tend to look for garments which are durable, fashionable and versatile.  In my closet there are few items that complete these 3 requirements and my leather jacket is one of them.  In fact I would say that my leather jacket IS the most verstile piece in my wardrobe.  This week I would like to include some pictures of celebrities to give you some ideas of how you can combine your leather jacket with just about any garment and for any ocasion.  

En época de crisis estamos mas cautos con nuestro dinero y cuando compramos buscamos ropa que nos va a durar, que esta de moda y versátil.  En mi armario hay pocas prendas que cumplen estos 3 requisitos pero mi chaqueta de piel es una de ellas.  De hecho yo diría que mi chaqueta de piel ES la prenda mas versátil que tengo en el armario.  Esta semana os dejo unas imágenes de como las celebrities combinan sus chaquetas de piel con casi cualquier prenda y para cualquier ocasión.  A ver si con estos ejemplos sacamos provecho a nuestras chaquetas..........
