The little black jacket / La pequeña chaqueta negra

¨In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different¨, Coco Chanel.  

Coco Chanel (1883-1971) was a French native who was determined to liberate women from the constraints of corsets and other uncomfortable garments. Chanel looked to design clothing which women could move freely in without compromising the elegance and femeninity of the styles.  Undoubtably one of her most charactaristic garments, the ¨Chanel¨ jacket, was designed in the 50´s.  This garment, originally a straight cut design, without shoulder pads, closed from top to bottom and with various seams to give it flexibility was inspired by a men`s waiters jacket in an Austrian hotel.  Coco added her feminine touches giving a masculine jacket style and glamour.  Her designs are timeless and extremely wearable which are some of the reasons that Coco Chanel was a reference for her time and still is one today.   

Coco Chanel (1883-1971) nacida en Francia, estaba determinada de liberar la mujer de su época de las constricciones del corsé y otras prendas incomodas.  Chanel diseño ropa para una mujer revolucionaría  que buscaba comodidad y una libertad en sus movimientos sin comprometer la elegancia y feminidad de su forma de vestir.  Su prenda más característica indudablemente es la chaqueta Chanel que la diseño en los años 50.  La chaqueta, cuyo diseño original fue una prenda de corte recto, cerrada de arriba abajo, sin hombreras y con varias costuras para darle flexibilidad, fue inspirada en el uniforme de los camareros de un hotel austriaco.  Coco añadió sus toques femeninos dando a una chaqueta masculina estilo y glamour.  Sus diseños no sufren los pasos del tiempo ni las modas y son muy ponibles lo cual hace que Coco Chanel fuera una referencia de la moda durante sus años y sigue siendo una hoy en día.     

Karl Lagerfeld, head designer and creative director for Chanel along with stylist Carine Roitfeld, paid tribute to Coco Chanel and her jacket by publishing a book (La petite veste noire)  with 113 photos of  the infamous ¨Chanel jacket¨.  The jacket is worn by celebrities the size of Kanye West, Uma Thurman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Yoko Ono etc., demonstrating the resistance to time and gender of this particular garment.  The simplicity and originality of this design make it a versatile garment which can be worn with dresses, skirts, jeans, by the rich, famous, young and old and can be reinvented to fit each of our distinct styles.  

Karl Lagerfeld, el director creativo para Chanel en colaboración con la estilista Carine Roitfeld rinden homenaje a Coco Chanel y su chaqueta publicando un libro (La petite veste noire) con 113 fotos de personajes conocidos llevando esta prenda.  Celebrities como Kanye West, Uma Thurman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Yoko Ono….. son algunos que posan con la chaqueta demostrando que da igual en que año estamos o el sexo, esta chaqueta es toda una referencia de estilo.  La simplicidad y originalidad de este diseño hace que sea una prenda muy versátil que se puede combinar con vestidos, faldas o vaqueros y que cualquiera, rica, pobre, joven, mayor etc. puede llevarla a su estilo.

Leather ocasions

In times of economic crisis we are very cautious with our money and therefor when we go shopping we tend to look for garments which are durable, fashionable and versatile.  In my closet there are few items that complete these 3 requirements and my leather jacket is one of them.  In fact I would say that my leather jacket IS the most verstile piece in my wardrobe.  This week I would like to include some pictures of celebrities to give you some ideas of how you can combine your leather jacket with just about any garment and for any ocasion.  

En época de crisis estamos mas cautos con nuestro dinero y cuando compramos buscamos ropa que nos va a durar, que esta de moda y versátil.  En mi armario hay pocas prendas que cumplen estos 3 requisitos pero mi chaqueta de piel es una de ellas.  De hecho yo diría que mi chaqueta de piel ES la prenda mas versátil que tengo en el armario.  Esta semana os dejo unas imágenes de como las celebrities combinan sus chaquetas de piel con casi cualquier prenda y para cualquier ocasión.  A ver si con estos ejemplos sacamos provecho a nuestras chaquetas..........
