Kopenhagen Fur - Ready to Wear - Fall Winter 2012 - Copenhagen

Last summer we had the priviledge of participating in Kopenhagen Fur`s sorting and grading course.  This is a month long course which Kopenhagen Fur, the largest auction house in the world, offers each year to a small group of International participants.  Last summer we started out with 30 participants.  The group was made up of  Italians, Greek, Koreans, Japanese, Russians, us two from Spain and the rest, and the largest part, Chinese.  The course is very complete and explains the whole process starting from the mink farms, pelting the skins, sorting and grading them, then selling the skins in the auction house and ending in the Kopenhagen Design Studion.  After recieving the pelted skins from the farmers the first process is to grade them according to colour (ranging from black to medium to white), type (brown, sapphire, vilolet, white etc) and sex (male or female).   

El verano pasado tuvimos la oportunidad de participar en Kopenhagen Fur`s ¨Sorting and Grading¨ curso.  Kopenhagen Fur, la casa de subastas más grande del mundo, ofrece todos los años un curso de un mes a un grupo selecto de participantes internacionales.  En nuestro grupo eramos 30 participantes de Italia, Grecia, Korea, Japón, Rusia, Belo-Rusia, nosotros 2 de España y la mayoria de China.  El curso es muy completo y explica el proceso del visón desde las granjas, curtido de pieles, clasificación,  subasta y finalmente a la mesa de corte y confección en algún estudio de diseño de alguna parte del mundo.  Después de recibir las pieles de los granjeros el primer paso es clasificar las por color (que van desde negro a blanco), tipos (ie. Marrón, zafiro, violeta, blanco) y sexo (masculino o femenino).  Hay maquinas especiales que separan las pieles por tamaño y claridad pero hace falta manos profesionales para hacer las clasificaciónes finales y poner las pieles por lotes.   

The minks are graded into over 10,000 different categories thus accomadating the needs of the fur trade.   The quality of the skins are graded by professionals and are put into bundles or lots which will later be sold in the auction.  Kopenhagen fur has it`s own labelling system, to guarantee the highest quality,  and it`s skins are divided into four categories, the finest being Kopenhagen Purple, followed by Kopenhagen Platinum, Kopenhagen Burgundy and Kopenhagen Ivory.  We spent 3 weeks learning these techniques with some of the most experienced graders at Kopenhagen Fur.   

Para acomodar las necesidades del mercado de la piel hay más de 10,000 categorias diferentes de visón.   Kopenhagen Fur tiene su propia sistema de etiquetar para guarantizar la mejor calidad, y las pieles estan divididas en cuatro categorias, la mejor siendo ¨Kopenhagen Purple¨, seguido por ¨Kopenhagen Platinum¨, ¨Kopenhagen Burgundy¨, ¨Kopenhagen Ivory¨. Las primeras tres semanas estuvimos aprendiendo estas tecnicas con algunos de los ¨graders¨ con más experiencia del Kopenhagen Fur.

The last week was spent in preparation for the June auction (Kopenhagen fur conducts 5 auctions a year)  when thousands of brokers were expected to visit and participate in the 4 day auction.  Denmark is the worlds largest producer of minks, producing around 14 million skins a year, but also produces chinchilla, fox and rabbit skins.  To aquire more information on Kopenhagen fur and their design studio visit thier website, http://www.kopenhagenfur.com .

February 1st-5th  was Copenhagen`s fur and fashion show and after this little summary of our summer there I thought I would share a video from the show.  I hope you enjoy.

Hace 2  semanas fue la feria de piel de Copenhagen y después de este pequeño resumén pensaba que podía compartir este video de la pasarela.  Espero que lo disfruteis.

Golden child

I cannot let another day go by without mentioning Milan`s Fashion Week.  From the 14th of January to the 17th of January, 41 designer`s paraded a numerous amount of handsome models, famous actor`s and some very outlandish clothing down one of the most International runway`s.  The designer`s took the opportunity to present their 2012-13 autumn/winter Collection.  Taking into consideration that the sales of  luxury items for men grew in 2011 6% more than for women we can better understand why name brand designer`s are putting a lot of energy into their menswear collections.  There is a lot of potencial growth in this sector and this past week in Milan was just an demonstration of just how strong the market is for menswear.   

No puedo dejar que pase otro día sin comentar la semana de Moda en Milan.  Del 14 de Enero hasta el 17, 41 diseñadores exponían sus colecciónes de otoño/invierno 2012-13 utilizando actores como modelos que exhibian los conjuntos más extravagantes por las pasarelas.  Considerando que las ventas de artículos de lujo para caballero aumentaron en 2011 un 6% más que para mujeres nos ayuda comprender porque los diseñadores estan enfocando toda su energía y creatividad en las colecciónes de ropa para hombres.  Han visto que hay mucho potencial para incrementar sus ventas en este sector y la semana pasada en Milan fue una demonstración del crecimiento de este mercado.

One of the most awaited shows was Prada who had already mentioned some big names who would be modeling for them, such as Adrian Brody.

Uno de los desfiles más esperados fue el de Prada quien había adelantado los nombres de algunos famosos, como Adrian Brody, que iban a desfilar para ellos. 

Here he is in a very colorful red double breasted coat with a two toned Astrakan fur collar and John Lennon-esq glasses.  What do you think?  Not really my taste.  But not just in Prada did we see menswear with fur, something not uncommon now on today`s runway`s, but also in Diesel Black Gold.

Aquí lo tenemos con un abrigo rojo de doble abotonadura,  cuello bitono de Astracán y unas gafas a lo John Lennon.  ¿Qué os parece?  A mi no me gusta mucho.  No solo vimos en el desfile de Prada prendas y accesorios de pelo para caballeros, algo cada vez mas común, sino tambien en el desfile de Diesel Black Gold.

Here we have an indigo cavallino (a type of cowhide) coat with a lambskin collar.  Personally I like this style, looks almost like a double breasted trench coat,  and color better than Adrian Brody`s.  How about you?

Este abrigo de cavallino en color indigo con un cuello de cordero es espectacular.  A mi me gusta mucho este estilo, tipo trench, y el color mucho más que el modelo de Adrian Brody.  ¿No crees?

And the focus was not only on the clothing but also on accesories for men.  Most, to not say all, of the designer`s showcased a wide variety of handbags. 

Pero el enfoque no solo fue en ropa sino tambien en accesorios para hombres.  Casi todos los diseñadores tenian sus colecciónes de bolsos.  

Here is one of the models for Gucci wearing a worn leather double breasted blazer with a ¨doctor`s¨ astrakan fur bag.  If this was my boyfriend I definately would be stealing this bag for a weekend getaway. 

En el desfile de Gucci vimos mucha piel, como este modelo que lleva una chaqueta de piel desgastada y  bolsos grandes, como este tipo ¨doctor¨ en astracán.  No me importaría tener este bolso para una escapada de fin de semana.  ¡Que chic! 

Leave it to Giorgio Armani to bring elegance to any runway and this time it was no exception.  Here we see a model with a sheared mink coat and the model behind him is also wearing sheared mink but in a ¨parka¨ style coat.  And probably the star accesory was the 1920ish cap which all the models were wearing.  

Dejaselo a Giorgio Armani para traer elegancia a cualquier pasarela y esta vez en Milan no fue ninguna excepción.  En la foto dearriba vemos el modelo con un abrigo de visón rasado y el modelo de detrás tambien lleva un abrigo de visón rasado pero tipo ¨parka¨.  Y por supuesto hay que mencionar los gorros tipo años 20 que no faltaban en casi ninguno de los desfiles. 

The predominant colors for most of the collections were black, grey and we saw a lot of blue tones.  I really like blue for men.  The majority of Gucci`s Collection was all blue tones, very cool.  Of course we can always count on seeing color and this year in Milan it was no different.  Versace`s Collection was quite colorful and it also had a lot of military prints in their garments.  But red was the go to color for most of the Designers.  In the website http://www.fashionising.com/trends/b--young-mens-colors-fw12-13948.html we can see the color palette for men`s fashion for autumn/winter 2012-13 season. 

Los colores que mas destacaban eran los negros, grises, marrones y muchos tonos de azul.  De hecho la mayor parte de la colección de Gucci estaba compuesta por prendas azules.  En mi opinion un color muy acertado para hombres.  El rojo fue el toque de color más utilizado.  Había excepciones como Versace quien utilizaba el rojo, colores fosforescentes, y estampados militares.  Para saber más sobre los colores que se van a llevar para otoño/invierno 2012-13 podemos ver en la página web http://www.fashionising.com/trends/b--young-mens-colors-fw12-13948.html una muestra de colores para hombres.  

If the statistics are right then the sales in Luxury items for men will eventually end up equalling women`s.  Keeping this in mind the two major multinacional companies, PPR and LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) both being french, who own brands such as Gucci, YSL, Fendi etc, are fighting for the monopoly in this sector.  So guys know that you are the new golden child and all the designer`s have their sights set on you.  How does that make you feel?

Entonces si las estatisticas son correctas las ventas de articulos de lujo antes o despues igualarán a las de mujeres.  Teniendo esto en cuenta, las dos empresas multinacionales, PPR y LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) ambas franceses, quien tiene en su propiedad firmas como Gucci, YSL, Fendi etc. están competiendo por el monopolio en este sector.  Entonces caballeros, sois la nueva gallina de los huevos de oro, ¿Cómo sentís?

Mod Squad

The word ¨Mod¨ refers to the British subculture in the 60`s which included music (African American soul, Jamaican ska, British beat music),Scooters and fashion (tailored suits, fur hooded parka`s). To get a better understanding of this fashion we need to conjure up images of Twiggy, thick long exagerated eyelashes, short pixie style hair cuts and for the gents, tight fitting suits and pimped out Vespas. 

La palabra ¨Mod¨ hace referencia a la subcultura Britanica de los años 60`s que incluye música (Soul Afro-Americana, Ska Jamaicana, o Beat Britanica), Scooters y moda (trajes entallados, o parkas con capuchas ribeteadas en pelo).  Para comprender mejor esta moda tendríamos que imaginar modelos como Twiggy, pestañas falsas y muy exageradas, cortes de pelo tipo ¨pixie¨ y para los chicos ropa ajustada y Vespas tuneadas.  

This leads us to the second trend identified by Christina McDaniel, IFTF`s (International Fur Trade Federation) fashion and trend consltant, Folkloric Mod.  So what exactly does this mean?  ¨Folkloric Mod¨ is the updated and more toned down version of the 60`s Mod trend.  Instead of bright strong colours used 50 years ago this seasons colours are caramel`s and light browns set against neutral tones such as lavander and a forest green.  Here are a few example`s, for men and women,  to properly represent this fashion.

Sabiendo esto podemos tratar la segunda tendencia identificada por Christina McDaniel, IFTF`s (International Fur Trade Federation) consultora en tendencias y moda, Mod Folklorico.  ¨Mod Folklorico¨ es una versión mas actual y mas discreta de la moda de los Mod de los años 60.  En vez de colores fuertes que se estilaba hace 50 años esta temporada los colores son caramelos y marrones claros combinados con tonos neutrales como lavanda o verde bosque.  Aqui os doy unos ejemplos para ambos caballero y señora para vestirte según esta tendencia.

Guys here`s what`s required to successfully portray this fashion; checkered or slim fitting pants, a tailored shirt or bowler shirt, a slim fitting blazer, topped off with a fur trimmed parka.  Throw in some Ray Ban sunglasses, hop on a re-vamped Vespa and you are ready to cruise the streets of London.

Chicos, para poder vestiros de forma ¨Mod¨ teneís que haceros con unos pantalones y camisa ajustados, , corbata estrecha, una americana entallada y un parka como abrigo con un poco de pelo en la capucha.  Y si combinas esto con unas gafas tipo Ray Ban y tienes la suerte de tener una vespa de los años 60, estas listo para callejear por las ¨streets¨ de Brighton.

Ladies, we have two options, the more feminine version which is made up of  a mini shift or tunic dress, a very high heeled boot ranging from ankle to knee, thick black or colored tights and to keep us warm a fur trimmed cape.  Or go for the more boyish look with a pair of slimfitting pants, a fitted button down shirt, a pair of laced up leather boots and throw on oversized hooded parka to complete the look.  If you have been already toying with the idea of a change in look, now is the time to cut those long locks and go for very in style bob with straight bangs or pull out all the stops and go for a short boyish cut.   And of course don`t forget the dollish like mascara, the signature for this trend.

Para las chicas, tenemos dos opciones.  Una versión mas femenina; un mini vestido tipo túnica, unas botas que pueden ser de la altura del tobillo hasta la rodilla, unas medias tupídas y una capa de pelo.  O la segunda opción es un estilo mas masculino que podemos conseguir con unos pantalones pitillos, una camisa de hombre pero ajustada, unas zapatos o botas de piel con cordones y robamos esa parka a nuestro novio y voíla ¨Mod¨.  Y si ya llevas tiempo pensando en cambiar tu look, atrevete con un corte de pelo tipo ¨bob¨ o incluso mas corto y por supuesto no te olvides de la mascara negra, el sello de esta moda.   

Personally, I like to mix styles and from this trend I would take the caramel colours and deep green and mix it into my wardrobe.  I already have TOO many black garments so by adding some colour I could make over some of my more drab outfits.  I do have some mini shift dresses but I also think a mini skirt would work and I know everyone has one of those in their closets.  This season I bought some heeled booties and I also got a few button up shirts.  So maybe I would try a combination of slim fitting pants, with a button up shirt, my heeled booties and I will definately look for a fur cape like the one Victoria Beckham is wearing in the picture or an awesome green one, as pictured below.  Before I  finish, I would like to say that I love the leopard print bag in the picture below as well.  In fact I like the whole outfit.  She definately knows how to mix and match trends.  What do you think?

 Personalmente a mi me gusta mezclar estilos y aunque yo no me considero ¨Mod¨ de esta tendencia me gusta la idea de mezclar los colores caramelos, marrones claros y verdes bosques con lo que ya tengo en mi armario.  Quizás una combinación acertada para probar esta moda sería unos pantalones pitillo, una camisa entallada, botines y una capa de piel de uno de los colores mencionada para esta tendencia como la que lleva Victoria Beckham en la foto o la capa verde que lleva la modelo rubia.  Y antes de terminar me gustaría destacar el bolso de leopardo que lleva la modelo en la foto, me encanta.  De hecho me gusta su combinación de prendas y accesorios.  ¿ A ti que te parece?

2012 fashion scoop/Avances para el 2012

Beginning of 2012 and one of my New Year`s resolutions is to keep looking from the new trends in leather and fur for all of our readers.  Here at Crivero we are very restless and are constantly looking at fashion magazines, the top runways, fashion shows, trade fairs and any other resources for the latest trends in fashion.   And already less than two weeks into January we have our first fashion scoop, hot off the press from 
 Christina McDaniel, IFTF’s (International Fur Trade Federation) Fashion and Trend Consultant.  She has identified three trends for next year’s Autumn/Winter 2012-13 season - Modern Bohemia, Folkloric Mod and Lady Kitsch.  In this blog entry and the following two I will be explaining what defines these 3 trends.  Today we will start with ¨Modern Bohemia¨.......

Ya estamos en 2012 y como buenos buscadores de tendencias y fashion este año seguiremos revisando las revistas de moda, viendo las pasarelas más internacionales y agotando todas nuestras fuentes para encontrar lo último en moda en piel para todos vosotros.  Y ya tenemos unos avances de la mano de Christina McDaniel,  la Consultora de moda para el IFTF (International Fur Trade Association)  quien ha identificado 3 tendencias para la temporada Otoño/Invierno 2012-13; Bohemio Moderno, Mod Folklorico y ¨Lady¨ Kitsch. En esta y en las siguientes entradas, iré explicando que define estas tres tendencias.  Hoy comenzamos con ¨Bohemio Moderno¨.........

In Wikipedia one the definitions of Bohemian is ¨Traditionally the bohemian is seen as an artist with a disshevled appearance, unkept, unorganized....¨.  I don`t think I have to define what ¨Modern¨ means, right?  So what does ¨Modern Bohemia¨ mean when it comes to fashion and specifically clothing?  To properly represent this look we should mix differnt patterns, prints and colours.  Our inspiration can be the typical ¨hippy chic¨ of the 60´s but instead of going overboard with psycadellic madness we should combine these prints in a tasteful way with basics.  A few examples would be to combine a high waisted baggy pant, cut offs or a pair of worn slimfit jeans with a jean shirt (all trends from 2011) and an XL fur scarf or a poncho with fur fringes (like in the picture below).   The colours which caractarize this trend are electric blackberry, chocolate and plum browns, combined with coral or grey tones. 

Primero aquí tenemos una definición de Bohemio, ¨Tradicionalmente se ve al bohemio como un artista de apariencia despreocupada, poco cuidada, desordenada....¨ de Wikipedia.  Creo que la palabra ¨Moderno¨ habla por si sola y no hace falta que os de la definición, ¿no?. Entonces ¿como relacionamos esto con la moda y concretamente con la vestimenta?  Pues, para conseguir este look tenemos que mezclar los estampados y colores, pero con mucho cuidado, combinandolo con algunos básicos para no recargar demasiado.  Los colores asociados con esta tendencia son la mezcla de morados eléctricos, marrón chocolate y tonos ciruela combinados con corales o grises.  Con estas mezclas conseguimos nuestro look bohemio o como a mi me gusta llamarlo ¨hippy¨.  

So no need to tie a head band on and jam out to the Doors (although it´s not a bad a thought).  But instead we can accesorize the clothes we have from this last season and give our wardrobe a new twist.  Don`t forget the oversized sunglasses, leather bracelets and necklaces and the hippy, anything goes, attitude to triumph in your new ¨bohemian modern¨ look.  
No tenemos que ponernos unas cintas en la frente y despreocuparnos por nuestro aspecto para conseguir este look.  Sencillamente complementando unos pantalones anchos de cintura alta o unos shorts vaqueros (cut-offs)  y una camisa vaquera con una bufanda de piel XL o un poncho de zorro (como en la foto arriba).  Hay mas accesorios que van muy bien con este look, como las gafas de sol grandes, collares y pulseras de piel y plata etc.  Lo que quiero resaltar es que nuestra ropa del invierno 2011 nos sirve perfectamente como básicos y solo hay que buscar los complementos adecuados para triunfar al estilo bohemio.

NYE ideas/Ideas para Noche Vieja

With Santa Claus on his way back to the North Pole and all our christmas overeating out of the way, it is now time get serious and think about New Years Eve.  If you haven`t already decided on what you are going to do, it`s time to choose.  Otherwise you might just be left without a date, a ticket for the club, a seat at the table or babysitting your nieces and nephews……..AHHHHH.  Just kidding.  After making the decision of what to do on NYE you then need to pick out an appropriate outfit for the evening.  Will it be a casual night where wearing jeans, boots and maybe a blazer would cut it? Or maybe more of a elegante evening which would call for a more sophisticated attire?  Whatever you decide consider adding a little touch of fur or leather to your outfit.  I have listed 10 items which could put that extra ¨SHIZAM¨ to your NYE outfit.  After all, it is the last night of the year and you don`t want to enter into 2012 wearing something totally unmemorable.  

Con Papa Noel ya de vuelta a Laponia y las pesadas comidas de Noche Buena terminadas, es hora de pensar en nuestros planes para Noche Vieja.  Si todavía no has decidido que vas a hacer, hay que tomar una decisión antes de acabar quedandote sin entrada a la fiesta, sin un sitio en la mesa, sin acompañante o peor cuidando de tus sobrinos..........UGH....(he he).  Despues de decidir hay que ir pensando en el conjunto mas adecuado para la noche que nos espera.  ¿Será una noche casual donde podemos acudir con unos vaqueros tipo skinny, una camiseta de lentejuelas y un blazer o será una noche donde tenemos que vestirnos de etiqueta?  Dependiendo de tu conjunto de esa noche considera añadir un toque de cuero o pelo a tu atuendo.  Teniendo en cuenta que es la última noche del año 2011 y queremos tener una buena entrada al 2012 hay que asegurarse que llevamos algo memorable.  Aqui os dejo 10 ideas para añadir algo extra a tu conjunto de Noche Vieja.

1. Fur and gold bracelet by designer Wendy Nichol. This can go with any outfit whether it be causal or fancy. Pulsera de oro y pelo de la diseñadora Wendy Nichol.  Facíl de combinar con cualquier look, siendo casual, elegante o incluso rockera.

2. A fur vest is great to keep you warm while still showing off your NYE ensemble.  Un Chaleco de piel para mantenerte calentita sin quitarle protaganismo a tu conjunto de Noche Vieja.

3. A medium sized furry clutch purse to carry just the necesities for any required touch ups needed.   Un bolso de pelo tipo cartera para llevarte justo lo necesario para cualquier retoque. 

4. Snake print leather jacket with fox fur collar by Gucci.  You will definately not go unnoticed with this combination.  Una chaqueta estampada de piel de serpiente con cuello de zorro de Gucci.  Con este conjunto estarás super fashion y captarás la atención de todos en la fiesta.

5. Long black leather gloves.  And don`t forget to push your sleeves up to show them off. Guantes largos de piel y no te olvides de remangar tu chaqueta para presumir de ellos.

6. Tie a leather belt on.  Perfect over any coat, sweater, blouse, dress etc.  Look for one with a flashy buckle to step it up a notch.  Ponle un cinturón de piel a cualquier vestido, falda, pantalón, jersey etc.  Y si tiene una hebilla bonita y llamativa, mejor. 

7.  XL leather bag.  Don`t forget to fill it with overnight necesities, after all it is NYE and anything could happen.  El bolso de piel XL.  No te olvides de llenarlo de todo lo necesario para dormir por alli por lo que pueda pasar.

8. A pair of great high heeled boots, like these ones by Christian Louboutin. A touch of fur will add some sass to any look.  Unos botines de piel y pelo, como estos de Chrisitan Louboutin, para dar un poco de ¨attitude¨ a tu conjunto. 

9.  An extra large Fin Racoon boa.  Just make sure you don`t drag it on the floor or let someone sit on it.  Una estola grande de piel pero asegúrate que no la arrastres por todo el suelo. 

10. Mink jackt.  And if you have it flaunt it.  Don`t leave your mink coat at home all alone on NYE, it will never forgive you.  Una chaqueta de visón.  No la dejes en el armario la noche más celebrada del año, nunca te perdonará. 

Macho Muchacho

¿Quien ha dicho que un hombre no puede llevar pieles?  Pues, yo no.  No me canso de decirlo, ¨La piel es algo muy sexy¨ incluso para hombres.  Cada vez mas se estila llevar prendas y complementos de pelo para caballeros.  Hay muchos diseñadores que hacen prendas de piel para hombres y no es nada raro verlas en las pasarelas más internacionales.  No tienen que ser prendas muy llamativas como los tres caballeros arriba pero pueden ser algo mas discreto y a su vez muy elegante (como la foto abajo).

Who said that manly men couldn`t wear fur?  Nope, not me.  I cannot emphasize enough just HOW sexy fur is, even for men.  Many of today`s most international designers are making collections in fur for men.  In fact it is getting more and more  fashionable for men to wear fur and NOT just on the runways.  No need to go overboard and wear something as attention grabbing as large fox fur coats (as shown in the picture above) but maybe something a little more descreet but at the same time very elegante (like the Photo below).

Esta prenda, de Loden Dager,  es extremademente masculina con un corte muy moderna y de una piel de visón en tono azules.  Me encanta.  Me gusta mucho la combinación de la cremallera, el pelo y la napa negra en la solapa.  A lo mejor no entra en tu presupuesto comprarte un abrigo de piel o simplemente no te atreves a ponerte uno......entonces una muy buena opción son los accesorios de piel.  También nos sirven como iniciación a las pieles.  Así empecé yo, con una bufanda de zorro y ahora............ de perdidos al río, no puedo pasar ni una temporada sin mis pieles.

This coat, from Loden Dager, is extremely masculine and in a very modern style.  I love it.  I like the zip up front, the blue mink fur and the black leather on the collar.  Maybe you are thinking ¨I cannot afford a mink coat¨ or ¨I don´t have the balls (excuse my language) to wear fur¨.  Well never fear a great option are fur accessories.  A touch of fur is a great initiation into the beautiful and sophisticated world o fur.  That`s how it all began for me.  Fifteen years ago, I remember it like it was yesterday, I was given my first fox scarf.  After that it was ALL up hill and I now cannot live without my furs.

 Mira este abrigo de Diesel que han añadido una solapa de piel de cordero.  Un look muy clásico pero a su vez muy seductor.  Y no creo que tengo que mencionar el añadido calor que nos da la piel y la atención que vas a recibir con este cuello tan favorecedor.  Eso lo llamo ¨el efecto pelo¨.  También se pueden mezclar looks, un traje elegante, con un trench con cuello de piel y ¨Bam¨ el rey de la noche.

Take for example this coat from Diesel which has a fur collar.  A very clasic look but with the fur trimmings it`s a whole different story.  And I don`t think I need to even mention the added warmth of this collar.  And just think of all the looks you will get while sporting this coat.  The fur on the collar always calls more attention to the face and is just damn attractive.  This is what I call ¨fur fever¨.  What about the combination of a suit with a trench jacket and fur collar?  This guy (picture below) is definately the ¨man of the evening¨

But don`t worry if you are thinking ¨hey I am much more casual than these guys¨.  Well then try a parka or anorak with a fur trimming on the hood.  See fur is for everyone and with all these options there is no reason to be warm and stylish this winter.  So guys what do you think?  Is fur for you?

Are you ready to rumble???

ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?  That´s what you should ask yourself as you step out the door heading to the first day of after Christmas sales.  The following few days the news is full of images of normally educated, polite shoppers pushing one another trying to get as close to the store entrance as possible before opening.  In fact I had an experience where the security guard actually came out before and said to the mass of people waiting outside  ¨please no running and no pushing¨.  Yes we were all adults outside.  But obviously his words were lost amongst the strategic planning which was going on in my head.  ¨How could I  politely push the little old lady out of my way, do a split leap over the baby stroller and beat my sister to that amazing gold dress which we both saw the week before.¨  At 10am the gun shot went off (or was that just in my head) and the doors opened.  The race has begun.  Luckily like us shoppers the store attendants had also put on their best running shoes and ran like hell to get out of the mobs way before they were trampled.    

Garments started flying as they were grabbed off hangers and the unwanted ones left on the floor to be looked thru by the late comers.  Long nails, large rings, steel toed shoes are all used to ward off other possible shoppers who threaten to enter your area of madness.  I could go on and on, but I think you get my point.  So my question is……In these days of sales is our dignity and respect for ourselves and others totally lost?  Becasue an item is 50% off does that really mean that we can act like animals?  I think not.  Many stores have early sales or are constantly offering some kind of discount.  I prefer to plan my shopping, take my time looking at prices and buy before all the craziness of the sales.  Then at least I am sure that I will find my size, not buy something unwanted because it is half off or worse something that doesn`t look good on me just because it was a bargain.   During sales I hate the long lines in the dressing rooms or waiting forever at the checkout because there is a price check.  But overall the disappointment of finding out that the shoes I was waiting to buy only have a 10% discount and they no longer have them in my size.  UUUGGGHHH!  So before you are ¨caught on tape¨ wrestling around on the floor of your favorite department store, think to yourself, is losing my dignity really worth it.  

¿En epoca de rebajas hay dignidad?

¿Tienes ganas de pelea?  Pues solo hay que esperar unas semanas y empezará la gran lucha de rebajas.  Esas imagenes de gente normalmente educada empujando una u otra para acercarse más a la puerta antes de que abran las tiendas.  La salida de la carrera a las 10 de la mañana en busca de esa prenda que escondiste la noche del 5 para llevártela al 50% sin importarte si hay que pisar tu mejor amiga, dar una patada a la señora de delante o empujar esa madre que lleva su niño en carrito y bloquea tu camino.  Para los que lleguen tarde es muy común tener que rebuscar en mesas de ropa amontonada o incluso en el suelo, debajo del perchero, donde puede haber caído una autentica joya sin que nadie se diera cuenta.

Esa mañana cuando estamos vistiéndonos poniendo los apisonadoras (coloquialmente conocido como los zapatos), los puños americanos y el cinturón de Karate, hay que parar y preguntarse, ¿Hoy me voy a comportar bien como el resto del año?  ¿Con dignidad y respeto?  Creo que para ahorrarse unos euros nos excusamos estos días de locura total.  Personalmente prefiero ir de compras antes de rebajas o cuando haya pasado las primeras semanas.  No me gustan las colas de gente en las cajas o los probadores.  Tampoco me gusta tener que rebuscar en contenedores que se asemejan a un cubo de basura.  ¿Y para que?  Ayer fui de tiendas y casi todas por no decir todas hacían algún tipo de descuento.  El mínimo que vi, era un 30%.  Entonces porque voy a esperar para ese otro 20% y arriesgarme a quedarme sin mi talla o peor pelearme con las masas.  Sé que hoy en día hay que cuidar de nuestra economía y que no se puede ir derrochando el dinero pero si planeamos y incluso compramos con tranquilidad, creo que al final ahorramos.  Muchas veces en época de rebajas hasta compramos cosas que a lo mejor no necesitamos o peor que no nos queden bien.  Si vamos de compras ahora,  podemos pensar en frío y tomar una decisión bien pensada.  Queda un poco menos de un mes para ir a las tiendas con calma y manteniendo nuestra dignidad.  Aprovecha bien estos días pero si decides ir de rebajas asegurate que no te pillan en las noticias del TVE1 practicando ¨vale tudo¨.

The dog ¨man`s best friend¨. But is it also the womans?

The dog, ¨man`s best friend¨.  But is it also the womans?  I think many woman out the
 re would agree that their furry pet is definately a friend.  A friend who no matter what is waiting for us at the door when we arrive home.  A friend, who if we allow, would be more than happy to sit next to us on the couch and take in a romantic movie.  A friend who I am sure if we offered him a seat at our table would sip (well, slurp) champagne and listen to all our stories, without interrupting us.  Could you really ask more from a friend?  No, I think not.  

In the last few years we have seen many of Hollywoods Starlets out walking their pooches or toting them around in pooch purses made by some famous designer.  In fact having a dog has become something of a fashion accessory, take Paris Hilton for example, toting her dog all around town.  Both owner and dog are usually  wearing the latest in today`s fashion; hats, fur collars, capes, booties etc.  Who wouldn`t mind being dressed in name brand designs and then be carried around to all the most happening places? Not me!

So this Christmas don`t forget about our faithful friend at home and give him or her a little taste of Hollywood.  And if you really want to do it up get matching puffy jackets  for you and your pooch.  You will be the talk of all the Christmas parties, just make sure you can show up with a ¨friend¨.

El perro, el mejor amigo del hombre.  ¿Y también de la mujer?  Pues, muchas me dirían que si.  Ese amigo infalible que nos esta esperando cuando llegamos a casa.  El que siempre, si le permitimos, se sentaría a nuestro lado en el sofá.  Incluso seguro que no le importaría hasta compartir una copita de champagne y escucharnos sin interrumpir.  ¿Se puede pedir más de un amigo?  No, no lo creo. 

En los últimos años hemos visto que el perro es casi como un accesorio de moda para todas las famosas.  Las vemos paseando sus perritos por la calle o cargando con ellos en sus bolsos de marca (Pooch purse en ingles).  Los visten  y los adornan con accesorios, collares, gorros, botitas, que hasta a mí no me importaría ser el perro de una famosa.

Stay out of Granny`s closet

With all the hype about ¨Vintage¨ some fashion goers might think that anything from their grandma`s trunk is okay to wear.  But that`s not always the case, especially when it comes to fur.  It´s true that we can use our grandma`s or mother`s old coats but fashion changes and when a style comes back into fashion it is usually a ¨restyled¨  version according to today`s trends.  And that is exactly what we need to do with those ¨vintage¨ garments is restyle them having them tailored according to today`s fashion without loosing that vintage look.  I will say this, a restyled coat is not the same as a new coat even if it is a similar style.    First off a new garment will never have that smell of a used one, which may remind us oh so much of our grandma`s closet.  Secondly you don`t have to be Arnold Schwarzenegger to carry that heavy fur coat around since today`s fur coats are much lighter but still provide the same amount of warmth.  And lastly when a trend comes back around it usually is not EXACTLY the same as, for example in the 40`s.   That is precisely one of  the jobs of the Designers, to take old styles and reconvert them into something fashionable, something new.   

Back in the day fur was a status symbol, something very luxurious not accesible to all.  But that is no longer true.  In fact the price of fur coats, such as mink, have gone down since our grandma`s or even mother`s bought theirs.  There are also cheaper options available and just as fashionable like rabbit, fox, or coats made from mink pieces.  With the drop in prices and the change in fashion etiquette  fur coats are no longer only for special ocasions or a night out but for everyday use.  In today`s market we have a large seleccion of fur garments which are stylish and lighter making them more compatible with our  urban lifestyle.  Below I have attached a few pictures showing some different examples of ways to sport your restyled or new garment in a more casual manner.
